Psychiatric Services Overview

Clarity's psychiatry staff work with clients to manage symptoms through medication. They work closely with various members of the therapeutic team to make sure medications are working well for clients and that they are adjusted appropriately as symptoms shift for clients over time. Psychiatric services are available at most Clarity clinics. Sometimes appointments are made for an in-person consultation. Other appointments are scheduled through our telehealth program. If medication is needed at the time of service, clients are able to order through one of Clarity's pharmacy locations at a significant discount.

New Client Evaluation

Before starting in care with one of our psychiatrists each client goes through a new client evaluation. The appointment takes about an hour where you are interviewed by one of Clarity's trained evaluators. You should arrive thirty minutes prior to your evaluation so you can provide clinic staff with appropriate information.

Clarity's psychiatrists can prescribe a range of medications that can be used to treat a variety of mental and behavioral health issues. Examples include:

  • Antidepressants – used to treat depression, panic disorder, PTSD, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder and eating disorders.
  • Antipsychotic medications – used to treat psychotic symptoms (delusions and hallucinations), schizophrenia, bipolar disorder.
  • Sedatives and anxiolytics – used to treat anxiety and insomnia.
  • Hypnotics – used to induce and maintain sleep.
  • Mood stabilizers – used to treat bipolar disorder.
  • Stimulants – used to treat ADHD.

What is MAT and how does it work?

MAT is a proven, effective treatment that been shown to increase treatment retention, reduce opioid use, reduce opioid overdoses, decrease risky behaviors and that lead to death. The medications approved for treatment of opioid use disorder help prevent overdose by blocking the opioid receptor sites. To be fully effective, MAT incorporates a multi-pronged approach that may include counseling, vocational training, psychosocial therapy, family support, and building connections to community resources.

We accept most insurance, Medicaid and Medicare.

Our team will evaluate and assess the client's needs and identifies the appropriate service for that person. Call 573-603-1460 to get started.

  • You should bring a complete list of medications or the actual bottles for the medications to your appointments. This ensures we are prescribing medication that is appropriate for you and doesn't interfere or interact poorly with other prescriptions you are taking.
  • Discharge paperwork you may have from a recent hospitalization
  • List of allergies

Using Medication as a Component of Care

Just like other medical conditions (diabetes, heart disease, etc.), people with behavioral health symptoms can be treated successfully resulting in full, productive, healthy lives. Clarity Healthcare offers a comprehensive continuum of clinical services and support for clients experiencing behavioral health challenges. Medication can be an effective part of the treatment for many behavioral health disorders. A medical provider’s recommendation to use medication often raises questions and concerns. Clarity's experienced team of medical providers, psychiatrists and advanced practice nurses, will fully explain the reasons for medication use, what benefits the medication should provide, as well as possible risks and side effects and other treatment alternatives.

The use of psychiatric medications or medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorders is based on a medical provider’s diagnostic evaluation and is part of a comprehensive treatment plan designed to meet your unique care needs. In some cases, the evaluation may include a physical exam, psychological testing, laboratory tests, other medical tests and/or consultation with other medical specialists. Medications which have beneficial effects may also have side effects, ranging from slightly bothersome to very serious. As each person is different and may have individual reactions to medication, close contact with your Clarity medical provider is recommended. Do not stop or change a medication without speaking to the prescribing medical provider.
